Moore suspended by Tranmere Rovers

Ronnie Moore (Eric The Fish)
61-year-old Ronnie Moore has been suspended as manager of Tranmere Rovers today, pending a Football Association investigation into a potential breach of betting rules. It seems that this couldn't have come at a worse time, with the Prenton Park club only two points clear of the League One relegation zone, albeit with a game in hand.

The club released an official statement which read: "Tranmere Rovers have today announced that with immediate effect manager Ronnie Moore has been suspended until the conclusion of a Football Association investigation into a potential breach of betting rules. Assistant manager John McMahon has been placed in temporary charge of first-team affairs."

With the recent reports of betting breaches, including those of striker DJ Campbell and winger Christian Montano, who coincidentally played for one of Moore's former clubs Oldham, have shown that the National Crime Agency are cracking down on the issue harder than ever before.

Even if Moore has done nothing wrong, these recent stories show that both players, managers and staff at football clubs need to be further educated. Current rules stop football figures betting on competitions in which they are involved. Is a rule needed whereby football players, managers and staff should not be able to bet on football at all? It may stop potential problems like Moore has found himself in.
